How Massage Can Help Your Anxiety

Anxiety.png

Wondering how massage can help treat symptoms of anxiety? Check out these excerpts from @verywell article:

Therapeutic Massage for Anxiety and Panic Disorder

“Massage therapy can help the body relax, which in turn can help one let go of anxious and fearful thoughts... As a relaxation technique, massage therapy can work to manage the fight-or-flight response, or stress reaction, that is typically overactive among people with anxiety disorders.”

“The fight-or-flight reaction typically leads to uncomfortable physical symptoms, such as shortness of breath, accelerated heart rate, excessive sweating, and chest pain. Massage therapy can have an opposing effect on the body by eliciting the relaxation response, reducing tension, lowering heart rate, and generally making a person feel calmer.”

How Do You End Your Work Day?

How do you end your work day_.png

Do you have an "end of the work day" routine? If not, consider creating one.

Many of us work from home now and a consistent "closing" ritual can help you mentally separate from work. It also prevents you from putting in more hours than you're supposed to.

Here are 4 things to add to your routine:

➡️ Write out a to-do list for the next day. Whatever you don't finish before you log off today will just go on tomorrow's schedule.

➡️ Straighten up your work area. Cleaning reduces stress, clears your mind of clutter, and makes you feel productive.

➡️ Change your clothes. A shift in your mindset occurs when you're wearing something different. So, even if you've been working in your pajamas all day, switch it up (maybe put on jeans if you're heading out, or a robe if you're staying in).

➡️ Schedule something fun after work. Whether it's a Target run, Face Timing friends or family, a relaxing bath, an in-home massage, or a walk -- when you have something to look forward to, you're less likely to work more than you're supposed to.

$1 Million a Year for Self Care?

russellwilson.PNG

From @espn: Top NFL QB Russell Wilson recently revealed that he spends $1 million a year to maintain his body.

Part of his “performance team” includes a full time massage therapist 😊

We don’t need to spend $1 million a year (lol), but there’s no doubt that regular self care (even when you’re “healthy”) pays off long term.

Sleepless Night? Here’s How to Recover

Sleepless night_.png

Anxiety had a lot of us up until the wee hours of the morning after Election Day. Some of us haven’t slept yet. Still trying to make it through the day on little or no sleep? Here are a few tips:

Drink Water – Stay hydrated! You feel fatigued when you are dehydrated.

Take a walk outside- the combination of light exercise and fresh air and sun can really give your body an energy boost.

Limit consumption of refined sugars and energy drinks – these can give you a short energy boost, but you’ll crash later. Instead, eat leafy greens like spinach (good for energy), and drink green tea (which can increase your mental sharpness).

What You Should Expect from an In-Home Massage Service?

living-room-2732939_1280.jpg

If you’re feeling a little nervous about receiving an in-home massage service nowadays, you’re not alone.

For most of 2020, our nation – the DC area in particular – has been hit hard by COVID-19.  Because of the nature of the illness, many are hesitant to have strangers in their home.

At Cassia Spa Therapy, we understand how you might feel. As a result, we’ve made a few changes to our protocol:

No penalty for last-minute cancellations. If you’re sick, or have been around anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, please cancel or reschedule your session until you feel better.

COVID-related paperwork. Prior to each session, I ask that you complete and submit a COVID-19-related form.

Masks. I’ll be wearing a mask.

In addition: Cleaning is nothing new for us. We’ll continue to thoroughly clean and sanitize all equipment between each session. I’ll also have plenty of hand sanitizer available.

Please reach out to me at booking@cassiaspatherapy.com if you have any questions/concerns about these protocols.

Take Time for Gratitude

gratitude.png

Practicing gratitude –whether it’s when you first wake up, or in the evening – is an important way to improve your physical and mental health. According to research, grateful people experience fewer aches and pains, and less negative emotions.

Wondering how you can make gratitude part of your daily routine? Many people find keeping a “gratitude” journal helpful. Here you can keep track of big things (like a promotion or a successful surgery) or things we tend to take for granted (like running water or the ability to experience our senses).

Remember: taking time to be grateful for life’s blessings is an important part of the journey to better health.

Creating Balance

balance-stones.JPG

Be honest. Do you usually log out of work on time?

With lots of people now working from home, many feel a temptation to “go the extra mile” by logging more work hours than they did pre-quarantine.

But having the proper balance in your day by creating and sticking to a schedule is the key to increasing productivity and focus.

Think about your priorities, and then fill in your daily calendar with appropriate time dedicated to each activity.

Walk Into Better Health

walking_instagram.jpg

More time at home can lead to more time on the couch.

Unfortunately, a sedentary lifestyle can be the reason you have lower back pain.

The good news is that gentle exercise, like walking, can help.

Walking increases blood flow, and flushes out the toxins that cause stiffness in the lower back (Spine-health.com).

Making time for a 10-30 minute stroll a few times a week can make a huge difference.

(Make sure you consult your doctor before starting any exercise program.)

Is your neck stiff after a long day?

Some gentle stretching can provide relief while improving flexibility and range of motion.

2) Hold the stretch for up to 10 seconds (however long it’s comfortable)

3) Bring your head up straight to a neutral position.

4) Do the same stretch on the right side. Make sure to pace, yourself. Go slow and don’t strain yourself. Depending on your comfort, you can do 1-3 reps of these stretches per day.

Filling Your Home With Natural Fragrance

shelf-4726518_1280.jpg

We often hear “your home is your sanctuary.” With many of us now spending most of our time at home, that phrase is truer now more than ever.

A nice, pleasing scent promotes peace and comfort in your home.

You can achieve this naturally with the scents that come from your indoor plants (as long as you have at least one sunny spot in your home). Lavender, Gardenia and Jasmine plants can be easily maintained indoors while filling your home with a light fragrance.

Head to your local Home Depot, Lowe's or garden nursery to purchase!
